Dopamine
For some reason, people like to call lots of things the “happiness hormone”. Serotonin? Happiness hormone! Dopamine? Happiness hormone! Oxytocin? Happiness hormone! Pizza? Happiness hormone! Game of Thrones? Happiness hormone! Sure, some of these things are closer to an actual happiness hormone, but we still get the feeling that this label is used way too frequently.
Not to mention it’s a bit unfair to sum up the complex effects of the neurotransmitter on the Dopamine T-Shirt simply as “making people happy”. Besides the fact that happiness is an extremely vague term, newer research suggests that dopamine actually has an effect on motivational salience rather than happiness. But yeah, “happiness hormone” sounds better than “motivation hormone”. Regardless of definition, this t-shirt will definitely make nerds who like neurotransmitters happy ;).
