Complex Mug
No matter how much you want them, some things are just not meant to be: fire and water, good and evil, or roots and negative numbers. There is no real number that can be squared to get -1, but, for some mathematical operations, you need to do exactly this (did somebody say fractals?). To address this problem, complex numbers were introduced. If it doesn’t fit, use a bigger hammer. Or, invent a hammer that will do the job. Good job, maths!
