Brilliant Screen, Flawless Responsiveness
The Moto Z2 Play has a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display out of the box, and the display looks great, with excellent contrast, colour temperature, viewing angles and vibrant colours. If you want more natural colours you can switch the display to the Standard mode from the settings. Even in Standard mode, the colours look great and because they were closer to the sRGB colour standard, we decided to leave it there for the entirety of the test duration.
Excellent Battery Performance
The Moto Z2 Play has a 3000mAh battery, and give an impeccable hardware combination front, we can normally expect the battery life to be miraculously extended on a moderate ended usage. Even with high-ended usage, the battery is guaranteed to last for close to one day generally.

Loud & Clear Audio
The Moto Z2 Play has just a single loudspeaker on the front. The single speaker up front sounds fine when holding the phone in portrait but sounds equal in equilibrium when holding the phone in landscape. The audio quality is quite excellent and while the music on the go, the user is accustomed to witnessing clear cut audio output. It does get fairly loud though so ringtones and GPS navigation sounds will be heard clearly.
Fingerprint Recognition On-Board
The fingerprint sensor below the display is one of the best in the business. It is incredibly fast to unlock and not once did we have an issue with the sensor not recognizing the fingerprint properly. With all the swipes and detection of fingerprints, users will witness accuracy, as well as the speed of the sensor. Having the sensor on the front also helps with the accuracy as it is really difficult to put your finger on it incorrectly when it’s right in front of you instead of somewhere on the back where you can’t see.
Silk-Woven & Latest Operating System
The Moto Z2 Play is equipped with Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box, which is about as good as it can get right now. As is usual for Motorola phones, the level of customization done here is minimal and is mostly for the good. Visually the UI looks very close to stock Android. The launcher circular app icons and you can press and hold on them to see additional options if supported by the app.
Shoot & Share
The Moto Z2 Play has a new 12-megapixel camera on the back with f1.7 aperture, 1.4um pixels and dual pixel phase detection autofocus. The camera also has two-tone dual LED flash and can do 4K video. On the front is a 5-megapixel sensor with f2.2 aperture, 1.4um pixels, and also a two-tone dual LED flash. The camera app has an easy-to-use UI with basic controls spread around the viewfinder. The small change in this app is that there is now a dedicated button to switch to video view whereas previously it used to be under the mode switch button on the bottom/top right. The mode switch still has the video option but now there is another option there for live video streaming over YouTube.
