Vintage loudspeaker designs have been making something of a comeback over the last year or two with several classic designs being revived with newer technology internally. Unlike many of these tribute designs Monitor Audio’s Studio 89 bookshelf speakers ditch the 1980’s styling of the original and replace it with a contemporary design philosophy that has more in common with their awesome £70k Hyphn flagship speaker. Luckily, despite the luxurious design, high-end driver tech and quality materials the new Studio 89 bookshelf speakers are far more wallet friendly.
This compact bookshelf speaker incorporates many of the advanced acoustic technologies found in the Platinum Series 3G and Monitor Audio’s flagship model, Hyphn. Its powerful twin 4 ¼” RDT III C-CAM bass-mid drivers deliver punchy, precise, and controlled bass, perfectly complementing the MPD III high-frequency transducer. The result is a highly detailed and lifelike sound, with clear high frequencies and tight mid/low-range bass for a true high-fidelity experience.
The cabinet of the Studio 89 is finished in a sleek, high-gloss black finish, paired with gold-coloured drive units, a nod to the iconic Studio 15— the only model in the original Studio Series to feature this striking combination.
Despite its compact size, Studio 89 produces an impressively big sound, housed in a beautifully crafted speaker.
