AudioQuest DragonFly Cobalt USB DAC
AudioQuest DragonFly Cobalt USB DAC
DragonFly Cobalt, the latest and most sophisticated member of the award-winning DragonFly franchise, is a USB DAC (digital-to-analogue converter), pre-amplifier, and headphone amplifier all in one.
Once connected, the Dragonfly Cobalt bypasses the audio circuitry in laptops, computers, and smartphones to deliver a significant upgrade to the sound quality with more detail, clarity and depth. This clever little device will extract the maximum performance from your headphones, powered speakers or PC.
Premium DAC
AudioQuest have upgraded the DAC found in previous DragonFly models with an improved 32-bit ESS Sabre ES9038Q2M processor. This high-performance DAC chip features slow minimum-phase filtering to deliver a beautifully detailed and dynamic sound. You will hear more subtle details in your music that would otherwise be missed.
The DragonFly Cobalt also features the same headphone amp as the DragonFly Red, which gives even hard-to-drive headphones plenty of volume and punch. A 64-bit digital volume control offers ultra-precise sound level adjustment with no loss of detail.
High-Res USB audio
The DragonFly Cobalt is designed make everything you listen to sound better. So even with the compressed audio you get from MP3s, Spotify®, Apple Music®, or YouTube will sound better. But it’s with high-resolution music where you can really hear what the Cobalt can do.
The Cobalt will decode high-resolution music files up to 24-bit/96kHz resolution, which is better than CD quality, and it also offers full MQA support. As you switch from one file type to the next or one music service to another the dragonfly-shaped logo on the DAC’s exterior lights up and changes colour to verify the resolution of the incoming signal – a handy indicator so you know what quality you are listening at.
For Headphones or Powered Speakers
Easily connect your headphones directly into the DragonFly’s stereo 3.5mm mini audio output jack for a serious upgrade in sound quality. You can also use an optional 3.5mm > 3.5mm or RCA cable to feed a line-level signal into to a pair of active or powered speakers or a separate power amplifier.
Wide Compatibility
The DragonFly Cobalt can plug directly into the USB port on a computer, but there are several ways to connect to other devices. AudioQuest includes a DragonTail USB-C adapter that will connect to the USB-C port on newer phones, tablets and computers .
For older Apple devices, AudioQuest recommends using a Lightning-to-USB Adapter.
