ASAP is not a Deadline
Usually these emails arrive shortly before you get off work, in the worst case on Fridays, and of course contain a request to do something “asap”. Right away, our body sets all the stress reactions in motion: sweating, heart palpitations, shortness of breath and a ringing in the ears. Because the body knows what this abbreviation means – the long-awaited and well-deserved break is suddenly a distant dream! Grrr…
Wait a minute! “Asap” means “as soon as possible” but has neither date nor time. The t-shirt ASAP is not a Deadline sums this up perfectly. So in the end, it is your decision alone when it is “possible” to get the work done. Which might just as well be after the weekend ;).
